Since 1964, Jigokudani Yaenkoen (Hell Valley Wild Monkey Park) has been loved and attracted many people from all over the world including researchers and photographers for the unique behaviours of Japanese Macaques enjoying in the Monkey’s Onsen (hot spring).----------------------- JIGOKUDANI YAEN-KOEN--- Jigokudani is located in a mountainous area in the centre of Japan. Jigokudani Monkey Park is situated in the valley of Yokoyu-River that flows from Shigakogen area, the northern part of Nagano-Prefecture. At 850 meters in elevation, it has harsh environments where snow covers the ground for one-third of a year. People called it Jigokudani (Hell Valley) because it resembles the hell with steep cliff and boiling water springing out from the earth. However, this place is made a paradise for two groups of monkeys that are in their natural habitats here.
